New Sculpture/Illustration

For the past couple of weeks, I've been working on a new sculpture. It's been keeping me busy while I wait for calls about jobs, and it's been a good creative outlet while I'm home. The final illustration will be about choosing a new career, but that's a few weeks off I think. It's made of Super Sculpey, but I'm adding paper mache elements and some other stuff as I think it needs it (as you can see I don't have a very solid plan... just sort of letting it develop organically).

Here's a mid-way picture...

Hopefully by the end of next week it will look a lot more finished!

Artist for Hire!

Do you need a last minute valentine's day gift? birthday present? a little something for yourself? I'm offering my services as an artist for any ideas you might have. I can do caricatures:

pet portraits (real or imaginary!)

or more realistic portraits:

I'm open to pretty much anything, if you have an idea, email me and let me know! I can give you pricing info and a time frame. For caricatures, I would charge about $25, for other things, email me and I can give you a more accurate price guide. Thanks!

New Self-Promotion Postcard

I just took advantage of overnightprints.com's sale on postcards and got a new mailer made. I didn't have a ton of time to design it, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I used my latest 3d illustration, and then an older one for the back to show some different styles of 3d.

I also got a new business card made, this one has one of my illustrations on it, tweaked to hold my personal information! here's a picture....

What do platypi and underwear have in common?

A couple of fellow artists and I are going to start selling handmade underwear (men's only to start) on Etsy. They'll be embroidered with our own illustrations. Intrigued? Have a suggestion? Let me know! The site will be up shortly and I will post developments here as they happen...

Here's a sneak peak of one of the illustrations that will most likely get embroidered...

Unemployed! (Thanks George Bush)

I am now officially a starving artist. I was laid off from the event company I worked for because George Bush was to busy choking on pretzels and turkey-bowling to do something about the economy.

That being said, if you or anyone you know in the Baltimore or DC Metro area are looking for illustrations/paintings/graphic design/web design/your house cleaned/ your laundry done/your dog walked etc, etc, etc. let me know. I'll do it. For serious. I'm broke.

Also, I've posted some more hand-made stuff on Etsy, including several different sets of coasters!

ACEO's on Etsy

I just found out what ACEO's (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) are and have started making my own and selling them on my Etsy site. They're business card sized (3.5 by 2 inches) pieces of art that you can buy or trade. It's a great way to own some original art by someone you've always enjoyed without breaking the bank.

Here's a sample of the series I just created. The rest are up on Etsy.

Society of Illustrators Acceptance!

I just found out that the cover I did for the Fall of the House of Usher has been accepted into the Society of Illustrators LA show and annual catalog! Thanks so much to Susan Doyle-Shed for submitting my work via RISD and to Jon Foster and my former classmates for the critique and suggestions to make it better! The show is going to be at Gallery Nucleus in LA from March 28 to April 3, so if you're in the area... stop by and see what I'm sure will be a great show!

Here's the piece that was accepted:
